Vinyl of the Week - 12 March, 2023
DISPLAYABLE vinyl of the week. As a self-confessed guitar tragic I can, and in fact have, listened to this record over and over again just for Clapton’s amazing guitar work. If that sort of thing is something you’re into, you won’t be left in any doubt as to why graffiti proclaiming ‘Clapton Is God’ started appearing around London in the mid-sixties. The majority of the 22 tracks on this double album are from the period 1966-1969, and contain hits such as White Room, Sunshine Of Your Love and Strange Brew. But the track I love most is the cover of the Robert Johnson song, Crossroads. Clapton really puts his heart into that one, and it’s amazing.
A great compilation album, really showcasing the band at the height of their powers - DS
