Some Girls, The Rolling Stones

Some Girls, The Rolling Stones

This week features another album from my favourite band The Stones. This iconic album is special for a number of reasons. ‘Some Girls’ was released in 1978 and was the first album with Ronnie Woods joining as a full-time member of the band. The cover was derived from an old magazine ad for wigs. The images of the female celebrities of the day as well as the band were then superimposed over the models faces. The only issue was nobody had bothered to get permission from the celebs. The original (the one at the top) had Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball, Farrah Fawcett, Liza Minnelli and Raquel Welch who all objected to the use of their images. Hence the second cover that eliminates their faces which remain blank. Musically, this album is solid and has some big hits such as the title track and ‘Beast of Burden’. I personally like‘ Before They Make Me Run’ which is one of the rare songs performed at their live shows with Keith as front man. A great album in its own right and a great story to go with it. Go and find an original if you can - DS
